OVERALL: Blu-ray A
The only version we currently have specifications for.
GENERAL NOTES:
Franco is given the director's credit "A.M. Frank" on the English version and "A.M. Johnson" on the French version. His "artistic direction" credit as Jess Franco refers to dubbing direction.
The film exists in several versions:
- The original Spanish version "El hundimiento de la casa Usher" which failed theatrically, a fan reconstruction of which runs ~67 minutes at 25fps but may be missing other footage removed for the reshoot version below;
- A reshoot version which added three murders featuring star Vernon titled "Los crímenes de Usher" which was only shown at a Spanish film festival and only exists now as a 16mm workprint (~76 minute at 25fps);
- Eurocine's French re-edit of the film "Nevrose" incorporating footage from "The Awful Dr. Orloff" as flashbacks as well as new scenes featuring Olivier Mathot and Francoise Blanchard (as Usher's dying daughter). For this version, the onscreen title reads "Neurosis" (93 minutes at 24fps). Although references date the French re-edit as taking place in 1988, the French and American VHS release of this edit dates from 1985 (the French visa was also issued in 1985).
- There also exists a French VHS of this version retitled "La Chute de la Maison Usher" (video superimposition) that also includes the murders from the second Spanish version running ~93 minutes at 25fps. -
