OVERALL: R2
The French release has both versions of the film with anamorphic transfers and lengthy extras. Though note the subtitles are forced.
Note about the differences in the theatrical and director's cuts: The 4-minute difference between the two versions is misleading. There's actually about 15-20 minutes of footage that's different. The HK censors didn't like the original cut so Tsui Hark had to completely change his movie, shooting about 30 minutes of footage in a few days to make the movie acceptable to the censors.
Information on differences between the versions can also be found at Movie-Censorship. -
