The same about the Czech DVD. Being a 1972 film I assume it was originally mixed in mono. The DVD's audio is remixed in stereo?

I updated it. Both the covers and the sound menu on my DVD player tell me it's stereo.

Menus on receivers and players cannot tell between stereo and mono (though it can detect "surround" if it has Pro-Logic).
You have to check by ear or by comparing the audio tracks through programs like Audacity.
Is there actual separation between left and right channels or are they the same in both speakers?

You can’t tell, meaning both left and right channels sound the same to you? If that’s the case it is mono.

Since no answer has been made, I'm going with the audio tracks as being "mono" for both which seems the most likely case.
